The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970. The passage of the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act and many other environmental laws soon followed. Twenty years later, Earth Day went global, and now today, more than 1 billion people participate in Earth Day activities each year!
